• Additional protection:ABTA members may offer additional financial protection for services such as hotels or flights, which may not be automatically covered under the scheme. 

ATOL (Air Travel Organiser's Licence): What it is:ATOL is a financial protection scheme managed by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) that covers most air package holidays sold by travel businesses in the UK. 

• What it covers:ATOL protects you if your travel company goes out of business before or during your holiday, ensuring you receive a refund or are brought home. 

• Benefits:Financial protection: If the travel company goes bust, ATOL will refund your holiday or offer you a replacement. Safe return: If you are already on holiday when the company collapses, ATOL will help you complete your trip and return home. Assistance with travel arrangements: ATOL will assist you in reorganizing your travel arrangements if necessary. 

• How to check:Look for the ATOL certificate when booking your holiday and check for the ATOL logo on the travel company's website. 

• Legal requirement:Travel companies that offer flights as part of a package holiday are legally required to offer ATOL protection.
